In 2017, Sara Sorenson visited a museum in Florida that would change her life. She discovered a place that nurtured and inspired children and their families to play together through innovative, hands-on experiential learning. As a parent of young children, Sara understood the benefits of play and the skills play provides for children to thrive today and well into the future. Sara returned to New Jersey and searched for a similar experience with no success. Sara knew in her heart that New Jersey needed a museum that would harness the Power of Play and create opportunities for children to develop the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.
Soon Sara joined forces with Nicole Pittaluga and Nisha Patel, local parents who are also passionate about the importance of play and bringing a new creative learning space to New Jersey. Together they set out to build a museum that they would want for their own children – one that connects ART + SCIENCE + NATURE and provides learning through play for children of ALL ages, learning styles, and abilities. Thus, Museum of Makers + Innovators, was born.
“Our hope is to build a museum that will inspire future generations of thinkers.” – Sara Sorenson, Founder
